Will serve fast-growing market in private equity and emerging growth companies
SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH — The law firm of Morse, Barnes-Brown & Pendleton, PC (MBBP) is pleased to announce the opening of its office in Salt Lake City, Utah.
After more than 20 years of advising clients, including emerging and established companies and investors, from its headquarters in the Boston area, MBBP is ideally positioned to serve the fast-growing market in Utah and the broader Mountain West region. Supported by first-rate universities, the region is home to vibrant tech and life sciences industries. In addition, with a highly educated workforce and an entrepreneurial culture, Utah has the second-fastest rate of job growth in the United States. These qualities present a compelling opportunity for MBBP, with its highly regarded capabilities in private equity, venture capital financing, M&A transactions, fund formation, and high-end intellectual property and licensing.
“Utah, with its increasing demand for lawyers who represent high tech, medical device, and life sciences companies and the investors who invest in these companies, is a perfect fit for our firm,” said Lisa Warren Treannie, managing partner of MBBP.
“Like the Boston area, Utah also has a highly entrepreneurial culture in which technology-based companies are looking for a law firm that understands their businesses and their challenges. We are excited to establish a permanent presence in this dynamic market, and we expect to maintain our momentum by increasing our presence over time.”
The office is led by two partners, Jeffrey P. Steele and James J. Kelly. Steele focuses on emerging growth companies in a variety of industries including life sciences and medical devices. He also represents a range of clients in angel and venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and business partnering transactions. Kelly’s practice is focused on representing private investment fund managers in all aspects of their businesses, including fund formation and compliance, operational and regulatory matters. He also advises a variety of emerging growth companies, including in the technology and professional services sectors.
With the launch of its new office in Salt Lake City, MBBP is making a commitment to the region. Kelly and Steele have permanently relocated to Utah with their families and have a deep understanding of the community. They and their colleagues look forward to making a significant contribution to the regional technology and private investment fund communities and to the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Utah and the Mountain West region.
“From a professional and personal perspective, Jeff and I are delighted to spearhead our firm’s new venture in Utah. From a professional perspective, we are intrigued by the many opportunities in this dynamic market and believe strongly that our firm is in a great position to achieve additional growth,” said Kelly. “On a personal level, Utah has an excellent quality of life and is a great area for families. We couldn’t be more pleased.”
