With more than 20 years of experience in corporate, corporate finance, securities, technology, M&A and business law, Peter represents technology-based clients in the online, interactive, information technology, software, hardware, consulting and integration, medical technology and biotech industries. He works with businesses through all stages of development — from startup through seed and venture capital rounds to operation as mature businesses — as well as mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic alliances.
He counsels clients including multinational corporations on the acquisition, development, protection and licensing of technology and other intellectual property, including registration, use and management of trademarks, copyrights and domain names, and trade secret protection and international licensing and distribution.
A former in-house lawyer, he brings a practical perspective to clients' legal needs, including the importance of agreements that facilitate rather than hinder business. Prior to joining the firm, Peter was international counsel for Cullinet Software and practiced corporate, securities and technology law with Goodwin Procter, Boston, and Olwine, Connelly, Chase, O'Donnell & Weyher, New York.
Peter is a member of the Boston and Massachusetts Bar Associations (Business Law and High Technology Sections), ABA (Business Law, Science and Technology, and International Law and Practice Sections), New York State Bar Association and State Bar of Georgia. He speaks and writes on numerous topics including venture capital and angel financing, e-commerce, licensing and startup businesses to groups such as the Massachusetts Software & Internet Council, IEEE, Boston Bar Association, Mass Export Center Evening Export School, and MCLE. He is the former founding director and secretary of New England/Latin America Business Council, Inc. and of Massachusetts Tech Corps, Inc.
Peter received his B.A. from Brown University and his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He began his legal career as a clerk for Associate Justice Alfred H. Joslin of the Supreme Court of Rhode Island.
